The VMA’s red carpet kicked off with Cardi B performing “Bodak Yellow” & to say it was amateur would be in over statement. She had no stage presence what so ever. She preformed over a track & had the levels on her microphone turned down. Epic fail. It was not VMA worthy. Bleachers performance followed & yet again the mic’s did not sound leveled. It was a complete train wreck! I think whoever took the money would gladly give it back if the Bleachers never do what ever that was again.
Kendrick can do no wrong. Who else would you have open the show? Especially with all that is going on in the country. The effects were phonimainal. Kendrick delivered like only he could. Ed Sheeran vocals is how one does the VMA’s live. Crisp, clear & smooth. The flame throwers Ed could have left home. Julia Michaels horrible lip singing really didn’t add anything to the show. Taylor Swift’s “Look what you made me do” video premiere breathed life back into the show. The video was perfectly executed. Taylor did what Taylor does best, turn a situation into a hit record. Shawn Mendes only being 19 has a healthy & long career ahead of him. Great breath control & stage presence. He didn’t try to do to much. He stayed true to his performing style not to mention sung live, both worked in his favor.
Lorde & Taylor Swift clearly has been taking dance classes together although we still don’t understand what exactly Lorde was doing on stage last night. What drugs was involved in the making of this boring, awkward & painful performance? Fifth Harmony had to be the hardest try of the night not to mention off beat. Their over sexed, over forced image was too obvious with this performance.
Miley Cyrus is undoubtedly one of the most talented artist of this generation. The staging was perfect. It wasn’t too busy & it fit the song choice. Her vocals played well although the country theme got lost in translation of the performance. Demi Lovato is how you put on a VMA performance. From her slick, edgy look to her powerful live vocals, this is what a VMA number should be.
P!nk has been has been one of the most underrated performers of all time. Her catalog as we seen last night is undeniable. The choreography was well sought out. The performance was well placed & well timed. She proved why she deserves such an honor. Kyle at the perfect time… commercial break! Is he still claiming to be born in 1993? Alessia Cara is talented & cute as ever. We look forward to so much more of this girl. If their was any question before… it’s official Katy Perry is clearly lost on this album. Her as a host is a no. No matter how many costume changes you put her in it’s still a no. Thank god for Nicki Minaj or the performance would have totally been miscible. We stay true to our theory that the VMA's always miss the mark when it’s in LA. Let’s hope that the plan is to return to the concrete jungle next year.
